Magneto the Nazi Hunter was ever bit as badass as was suggested in his comic back-story.
On a related note... Does anyone know what issue that was? I sadly sold off my collection of comics in high-school and I'd love to track down a copy.. I bought it in the mid 90's though the art/style looked late 70's. The basic jist of the story was that Magneto was a Nazi Hunter working for the US Gov until he tracked down and killed one of the nazis the US Gov had put on their payroll and it infuriated Magneto. Then it moved on to his late discovery of his abilities in Russia when his daughter is burned alive.
That's really my only nit-pick for the new movie. He was never experimented on in the Death Camp in the way they show... the drugs they gave him suppressed his mutant abilities until he was well into adulthood. He's also not Jewish, he's a Gypsy. I guess they just assume the general public is too stupid to know the Nazi's sent a great many people to their deaths.
Saw "X-Men: First Class" last night
Has anyone else here seen it yet? I really enjoyed this take on the origin story.
One not-too-spoilery comment: I was intrigued by the choice to have Mystique's significant early connection to the X-Men family be with Charles Xavier. I don't think that has been in any of the versions of canon, although I could be wrong, since there have been so many alternate versions. She has been connected to Rogue, Irene (Destiny), and Nightcrawler, but I haven't read a storyline in which she has a significant emotional connection to Charles. (I think maybe, in the "Ultimate" universe, they had a past together?) This version of events worked for me, though. I liked the way this spin played out, along with this version's take on such iconic events as the metamorphosis of Beast.
(Oh, and while everyone may be buzzing about the cameos by two of the X-Men movie trilogy cast, did anyone notice the tiny appearance by Justin Hartley, near the end? Edited to add:
I have been corrected - I guess that was Brendan Fehr. But I'll go see it again, anyway. Just, you know, to be sure. :-) )
